CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - With its team members representing opposite corners of the country, Wade's Pro Shop of Forks, Wash., moved into 10th place in Classified Team at the Open Championships on Wednesday.
The group posted games of 883, 907 and 942 for a 2,732 total at the American Bank Center Exhibit Hall. Torkelson Construction of Clarion, Iowa leads with 2,878.
Tom Rinehart led the way with 683 and was followed by Josh Fagan (652), Michael Rosendahl (535), Ernie Penn (442) and Pam Rinehart (420).
Rinehart of Lady Lake, Fla., originally was scheduled to bowl with some friends from home, but when they canceled the reservation, he turned to the sub board on USBCopen.com to find some new teammates in a hurry.
"I went online and posted on the sub board that my wife and I were looking for a team to bowl with," Rinehart said. "It wasn't long before we got a call to join this team from Washington, and actually, I was born and raised in Seattle, which isn't too far from where they're from. So even though I didn't know the guys, it felt a little like home."
The recently retired Rinehart, 55, attributed some of his success to a new bowling ball that was given to him as a gift just before traveling to the Open Championships.
"I got a new ball as a retirement gift from my boss, and this was the first time that I really got to test it," said Rinehart, who had been working part time at Spanish Springs Lanes in Florida. "Plus, the shot really seemed to match my game for once."
