JBT Online Update 9-30-09

Kyrene results posted!

Congratulations to Cameron Smith, Derek Acuff, and Danny Varholdt, all winners in JBT action at BRC Kyrene this week.  Complete final standings, as well as all the updated, stats, stories, videos, records, and everything else related to the wild, wonderful world of JBT is all at the best website in junior bowling, www.bowljbt.com.  Please take the time to explore through the website, especially if you haven't lately- we think you'll have a lot of fun seeing just how much we have to offer.

So Cal this weekend!

Kearny Mesa Lanes in San Diego hosts another thrilling doubleheader of JBT action this weekend in the Southern California Conference.  Saturday's event begins at 1 PM, and Sunday's event starts at 9:30 AM.  Sunday is a DOUBLE POINTS event, so you don't want to miss this great weekend (you'll notice a double points event around this time of the season in every conference, and plan on one more per conference in the winter/spring segment).  Be sure to make www.jbttravel.com your site for booking any hotel rooms or other travel needs you may have, get a car full of bowlers together, and come on down to beautiful So Cal and the newly remodeled Kearny Mesa for a great JBT weekend!

Check bowler averages for Baker team events!

Remember, the 10/15 average cutoff is coming up for our first 3 Baker Team Challenge events.  Each team must have at least one bowler averaging 180 or under as of 10/15/09.  Check the averages section of the statistics page, where you can view bowler averages.   Drop us a line if you have any questions.

Kyle King becomes all-time JBT earnings leader!

It's been inevitable for a while, and now it's finally happened.  With $39,233....yes, that's nearly FORTY THOUSAND dollars, Kyle King is now the all-time leader in career JBT scholarship earnings, passing BJ Baker and Steven Black last weekend.  This is an amazing accomplishment, and not only a credit to Kyle's extreme talent at a young age, but to the King family's dedication in carting him around the country to our events (and many others for that matter).  Congratulations Kyle!!!

Sunday 11/15 at AMF Deer Valley is scratch AND handicap

If you have an old copy of the Arizona Conference schedule flyer, it has the Sunday 11/15 event at Deer Valley as scratch only.  This is INCORRECT- it's scratch and handicap.  All other flyers and the website are correct, so if you have the incorrect flyer, please mark it accordingly.  Sorry for the goof!

JBT mock necks going quickly!

If you've been to JBT events this season, you've probably noticed the limited edition mesh JBT mock turtlenecks for sale.  These are not part of our regular merchandise catalog (available at the website and at all JBT events), and once they're gone, they're gone.  Only sizes L-3X are remaining, in black, royal, and navy.  If you'd like us to hold you one to pick up at your next JBT event, just let us know and we'll be happy to do so.

"Spread the word": much more than just a slogan

JBT veterans know that I end a lot of emails and announcements with "spread the word".  I want to take a moment and remind you just how important that is.  Either recently or a while ago, somebody told you about these cool tournaments called JBT that you should check out.  If you guys don't return the favor and tell other folks about us, there simply won't be any JBT in the future.  So, with a tough economy and less overall bowlers around, it's more important than ever to tell people in your local leagues, other tournaments, etc., that JBT is for them too.

Sometimes non-JBT parents think that if you bowl JBT, you can only bowl JBT, or the reverse.  Please be diligent in letting them know that's of course not so.

Sometimes non-JBT parents think JBT is a league and they have to bowl all the events.  Although of course we'd love you to, please be diligent in letting them know that's of course not so.

Sometimes non-JBT parents see our scratch bowlers strike a whole lot and think their kids aren't good enough.  Please be diligent in letting them know we have a handicap division, so any average is good enough.  Our results bear that out every single week, as our regulars know well.

Please really encourage folks to visit our website.  Everyone likes to see their 'name in lights', and the website is a great place to show people that what we're doing isn't duplicated anywhere else in junior bowling!

It's always a shame when our staff sees a bowler that would enjoy JBT events, but doesn't even know about us.  Every bowling center in the west (of 16+ lanes) got at least a JBT schedule flyer, and bigger centers got a pack of flyers- if your league coordinator never mentions JBT, please encourage them to do so!  When I hear "I wish we found out about these sooner!", it breaks my little ol' heart.

... anyway, get the picture?  You guys are all JBT ambassadors, and I can't overemphasize just what an integral part that you play in the continued existence of JBT as we know and love it.  Thanks in advance for your continued help in... spreading the word!

"Any age, and average"... also not just a slogan!

I know I just mentioned it above, but we do a lot behind the scenes work all the time to make sure that any age, any average is as true as we want it to be.  We look at and evaluate our handicapping system, lane conditioning program, formats, and many other factors to make sure that bowlers of all skill levels can compete and have fun in JBT events.  We've had 14 events this season so far, thus 140 top-10 finishers in handicap events, and here's the range of averages of those top-10 finishers:

                    Under 100 average:  6 top-10 finishers

                    100-130:                 18

                    130-150:                 31

                    150-175:                 71

                    Over 175:                12

This range is almost a perfect match of the overall range of averages in handicap JBT events (meaning, we have the fewest total entrants in bowlers averaging under 100, the most in the 150-175 range, etc...)   So, it really is any age, any average.  So.... yay!

 See you soon!

We'll see you this weekend in San Diego, or at JBT events in the near future!
