Cliff Castle, Holiday Produce Exciting Tourneys!
Thanks to everyone who came out two five amazing JBT events the last two weekends, at Cliff Castle Casino and Holiday Bowl. If you’ve missed them, you’ve missed some of our most exciting, intense, and entertaining events ever! Please check out the final standings at the “Schedules and Results” page of our website, www.bowljbt.com, and be sure to poke around all areas of the website to keep up to date with everything going on in the wonderful world of JBT!
$13K awarded in 08-09 already!!
In our seven events so far this season, we’ve already awarded over $13,000 in scholarships to junior bowlers of all ages and averages- wow! As always, we need your help in telling other bowlers that JBT is for everyone, and getting them to try us out! We simply don’t have the budget to make stacks of flyers for every bowling center, and even when we do, those stacks often get thrown out, or buried under other flyers, instead of in the bowlers’ hands, so we really rely almost totally on you to spread the word about everything we do. So, thanks for all you’ve done so far, and thanks in advance for helping keep the Tour viable and healthy!!
Vegas (with a Main Event preview) This Weekend!!
Coming up this weekend, the Mojave Conference opens its 08-09 season with a doubleheader weekend at Texas Station. Again, this means that there are two separate tournaments- one Saturday and one Sunday. You can bowl either one, or hopefully, both events. The big incentive to bowl this weekend (besides all the usual great JBT stuff), is that we’re going to test the potential patterns that we’ll be using for the 2008 Las Vegas Main Event, our huge event over Christmas week that awards over $55,000 in scholarships. We’ll do one pattern Saturday, and the other Sunday. So, if you want what might be an incredibly valuable sneak peek into the Main Event lane conditions, make sure to be in Vegas this weekend! Incidentally, I found a very inexpensive room rate at Texas, and many Vegas hotels seem to be offering reasonable room rates right now- so pile in a car, split up that gas money, and get on the JBT highway to Vegas!

Two Flyer Corrections
Two corrections on our flyers for upcoming events – no matter how hard I proofread these things, I sometimes miss a cut and paste—sorry!!! First, the Sept. 20-21 weekend at Kyrene should have Saturday as the double points event. Second, the Oct. 4-5 weekend at Bowl El Paso has the wrong address for the bowl. It should be 11144 Pellicano, El Paso, (915) 593-7777. Please note and mark those changes.
Credit cards a Great Way to Prepay!
Remember, you can now prepay for JBT events online using credit cards or paypal. Many of you are taking advantage of this option. One question that has come up often is that there is no area where you say specifically which events you’re signing up for on the paypal section. This is because your prepaid credit creates a guaranteed reservation for you at ANY regular season event (as long as you check in 30 minutes or earlier before start time). That said, it never hurts to give us a heads up if you have specific plans to attend an event, so we can be as prepared as possible for you. So far this has been a successful experiment, but if you can think of a way to make our credit card system better, let us know and we’ll try and make it happen.
PBA Dress Code Bonus: Shorts a No-No!
With the weather still warm in most places around JBT-land, we need to remind you once again about our dress code. To bowl in JBT events, we have a fairly simple dress code: Collared shirts or bowling-specific t-shirts (or ‘mock’ tees) are required, and shorts are even okay as long as they are of a khaki or ‘cargo’ type – nylon basketball shorts or denim jean shorts are not okay. BUT—we also have what we call our “PBA Dress Code”, which earns you a 10-point bonus on your season long points total. Points mean a ton on our Tour, as they get you into our year-end, bigger-money events, among other things. To get this bonus, you MUST have on slacks or skirts/skorts. Wearing a nice Ebonite shirt with your name on it is certainly great, but if you want the bonus, plain old shorts won’t do. Looking as professional as possible is important to the JBT’s image, as well as for attracting and keeping our great sponsors, that’s why it’s something we make pretty important.
Amazing Start To Season 13!!!
So much has gone on already – check out these highlights: Our higher-average girls have made a big splash early this season, with Chelsea Zemelka winning a scratch title, and plenty of ladies making scratch semifinals and finals. Allie Ijams, meanwhile, beat Kaitlin Mayall in the first JBT Women’s Series title match- be sure to check out the “Points & Avgs” section of the website for much more on that.
Also, plenty of bowlers are making the leap from handicap to scratch this year, and plenty have had some success already, with Billy Read leading the pack with a win last weekend in Albuquerque. If you’ve just started scratch and are struggling, keep at it, and congrats to those with some great accomplishments under their belts already. Speaking of Albuquerque, that’s nowhere near Washington, but that’s where Jordan Plunkett came from to win a title on Sunday! All that, plus 2 title match tie games, 4 non-house lane conditions in 7 events, Kyle King opening with 3 out of his first 5 events being wins… should I mention $13,000 in scholarships again? Wow, what a start to season 13!
Thanks, Sponsors!!
We also want to remind you of, and thank, our sponsors. Impact Bowling has doubles the fun in the second year of the Impact Challenge. This year, lucky bowlers who make the first cut but miss the finals in all Arizona Conference events, both scratch AND handicap, will receive a bonus $50 scholarship! So far, Miguel Lopez, April Urban, Amanda Ailport, Gino Salaverria, and Deven Johnston have “felt the impact” of this terrific donation as Impact Challenge Winners.
Also, BowlingBlvd.com sponsored last weekend in Albuquerque. This is a 100 percent free social networking site for everyone over age 14, so we hope everyone will thank them by going there and signing up today!
You’ll be playing for a lot less scholarship money than we are now if we don’t realize how special our sponsors are- we’ll be continuing to highlight these great folks in coming weeks- so check out all our sponsors on our home page, and use their services!!!
Main Event Volunteers Sought!!
We are looking for volunteers to work at the 2008 Main Event! Any help is appreciated, you don’t have to work the whole time. If you’re interested, drop us an email, and we’ll put out an email to interested people shortly. Thanks in advance for helping make the Main Event a success! By the way—are you signed up yet? Got your doubles and team squad partners set? It’s time to start thinking about it!!!
See you soon!
PHEW!!! Thanks so much for a great start to season 13, and we look forward to keeping it going with a great weekend in Vegas in a few days. We’ll see you there, or at other JBT events in the near future!
