JBT Online Update 8-13-09

Desert Open - Tour Trials Marathon next weekend!

Coming up next weekend is one of the best scratch events of the year- the Desert Open - Tour Trials Marathon, August 21-23 at Glenfair Lanes in Glendale AZ.  The scratch only event starts at 6 PM on Friday and features a 20-game qualifier on 4 different patterns.  The top 32 bowlers then advance to single elimination matchplay.  One special twist is that the highest seed remaining in the round of 16 gets to choose the lane condition used for the rest of the event- wow!  Plus, look at this list of goodies to the winner:

        - $1,000 first place scholarship

        - the beautiful glass cactus trophy

        - 25 free raffle tickets at EVERY 09-10 JBT event

        - qualification for all 5 2010 JBT Invitationals

        - exemption into day 2 of the TPC

Wow, what a great event!  All scratch bowlers should really consider bowling this event.  But pay by credit card online, send in a check, or arrive very early on Friday to secure a spot- space is limited.  See you there!

2 Pac NW events cancelled... dangit!

Again we are saddled with two tournaments that overlapped other events in the Northwest area.  The other events can't move, and we can't move, so rather than force bowlers to make a choice, I am forced to cancel these events.  So, unfortunately, the Sunday 9/13 event at 20th Century and the Sunday 11/1 event at Pacific are cancelled.  Be sure to mark your schedule accordingly.  Please note that the Saturday events on both weekends are very much still on.  The Saturday 9/12 event will be double points and women's series events as well.

If I sound frustrated, I am- this should never have happened this late in the game.  Please, folks--- we put out tentative schedules months in advance for people to look through and troubleshoot- I can only do so much as one person.  When we put out our tentative winter - spring schedules this fall, please take the time to look through them (and encourage directors of other tournaments to do so as well) so we can avoid this nightmare (for me and us) again.

No PBA members can bowl JBT events

In talking with other Tour directors nationwide, one addendum to our new eligibility rule is necessary, for hopefully obvious reasons: no PBA members are allowed to bowl JBT singles events, even if they are eligible age-wise.  PBA members are still welcome to be the JBT bowler's partner at Doubles and Team events, and may still bowl the T of C, however.   Speaking of the eligibility change...

Spread the word: 21 and under, 'adult' or 'junior' can bowl!

I'm getting dozens of emails every day from bowlers still unsure of how the age change rule affects them.  Here it is as simply as possible:

How old are you on 8/29/09?   Is your answer 21 or under?   Are you a PBA member?  No?  THEN YOU CAN BOWL ALL 09-10 JBT EVENTS!   It doesn't matter if you're 'adult' or 'junior'... we are an age-based tour now.     Pleeeeease help us spread the word that JBT is for (almost) everyone!

Ijams, Rawsthorne, King, Helmick, Blanchard, Bidwell, Chui, highlight summer action

Many JBT regulars have been performing spectacularly in big summer tournament action.  Allie, Catherine, Kyle, and Matt all made the semifinals of the Teen Masters event, with Allie's runner-up finish the best result.  In the east coast JBT's Las Vegas Open, Josh defeated Devin for the scratch title, while Kirk was runner-up in the handicap division.  Congrats to everyone on their fine performances, whether I just mentioned them or not!

See you soon!
We'll see you next week for the Desert Open-- get excited!!!  Season openers in all five conferences aren't far behind either!    Spread the word about what we do here at JBT that you won't get anywhere else, and we'll see you soon!
