Desert Open Awards Almost $7,000!
Congrats to Brandon Allred and Sabrina Myracle, champs of the JBT Desert Open, held in Phoenix last weekend. This was a grueling, dramatic event hosted in fine style by AMF Deer Valley GM Peggy Cianciola. Be sure to check out the complete final results at the biggest website in junior bowling, www.bowljbt.com!
07-08 JBT Season is Over- $300,000+ Awarded!!!
Well, 97 tournaments later, here we are- the 2007-08 JBT season is now complete! What an amazing season it's been-- I am constantly astonished at both the talent of our bowlers of all ages, and the dedication of our bowlers and parents to come to our events, making a Tour of this scope possible.
There's a lot of numbers in the JBT world, but what we're most proud of this season is the fact that we awarded just over $300,000 in scholarships to bowlers of all ages and averages, this season alone!!! Nobody else in the WORLD even comes close to this amount- so huge thanks to all of you for participating, and to all of our fantastic sponsors for helping elevate our prize funds to this incredible total.
Happy Trails To Our JBT Vets!
This is always a bittersweet time of year for us, as some of our JBT veterans are now "aging out", headed out of JBT-land for college, or otherwise moving on to adult bowling. It is with sadness that we say goodbye to some of our all-time stars such as Andy Byer, and BJ Baker, but also to some others who haven't received the same fanfare as well- we will miss you all and wish you the best of luck in everything you endeavor!
You're NUTS If You 'Go Adult' Before Your Time!
If you're thinking of moving on to adult bowling, and you don't have to because of your age, my advice for 95% of you is this: DON'T!!!!!! Here's why:
1) With USBC's rule 400 change a few years ago, you can now bowl most adult singles tournaments and leagues, provided you receive any cash prizes in scholarship form. That means you can bowl PBA regionals, a singles adult league, the US Open if you wanted, all while still retaining your junior eligibility for JBT, the big money summer junior tournaments, Main Event, etc. This is a "best of both worlds" situation that others who bowled before this rule change would have killed for!!! Why would you want to cut out half your opportunities? (***be sure to check closely with each individual adult event to be sure you do not violate your junior eligibility by bowling!)
2) Adult bowling is HARD! (and waaay more expensive!) The ones making money in adult scratch bowling are the very best, and they don't ever "age out". If you bowl an adult event for cash, and find out that maybe you jumped the gun on that idea, it's already too late to go back. I have never in 20 years around bowling found an adult who said "thank goodness I went adult early!" However, plenty have told me, "I wish I stayed junior longer".
Please understand I'm not giving this advice just to get you to stay as "my customer". Of course I want you all to bowl as many JBT events as possible, but please consider this advice as from one bowler to another. You have the rest of your life to bowl adult leagues, etc.- and you sometimes don't realize how good you have it as a JBT bowler. When to "go adult" is an individual decision that is different for everyone, but with this ability to stay junior and still do most big adult events, staying junior as long as possible is even more of a no-brainer for the vast majority of you. Just some food for thought.
