So Cal results posted!
Last weekend the So Cal Conference wrapped up its season with a very busy weekend at Keystone Lanes, highlighted by Jimmy Hefley and Josh Shoup winning $1,000 scholarships as So Cal Invitational champions. Nearly $10,000 in scholarships were awarded- yes, ANOTHER $10,000 in just one week- to the talented field. Check out all the final results, as well as all the updated stats, stories, pictures, videos, and so much more at the most complete website in junior bowling, www.bowljbt.com. No, really, check it out!
Tournament of All-Time Champs; AZ Invite this weekend!
The 08-09 regular season all comes down to this weekend, with two of our most historic events back to back, at Kyrene Lanes in Chandler, AZ. First, on Saturday is our Tournament of All-Time Champs (and almost champs!), beginning at 10 AM. Anybody who has EVER finished first or second, adult or junior, in any JBT-run event ever is eligible to play in what is designed to be a fun, reunion-style event.
We obviously don't have the resources to spread the word to all of our champs throughout our history, so in order to make this event as neat as possible, we need you to help us spread the word to all of our alumni that it's T of C time again!
Also, the flyer I made of for the TOC wasn't really my best work ever, so a quick clarification: this is a usbc rule 400 compliant event, so there is one prize fund for scratch and one for handicap, with any adults who 'cash' having the option to receive cash or designate their winnings as scholarships to the bowler of their choice (including themselves). $300 is the guaranteed first place prize, and there are no points for this event- so come on down and bask in your champy-ness at one of our favorite events of the year!
Then, on Sunday we wrap up the Arizona Conference regular season with the original Invitational, the AZ Invite, with a 9 AM starting time. Just like the other 5 Invitationals, $1,000 scholarships will go to the scratch and handicap champs in each division, with Bowler of the Year, All-Star team, and TPC berths all on the line, so if you're eligible, by all means be there! You've worked all season for this, so don't miss it.
TPC field set after the weekend; Increase Girls' eligibility to top 20?
When the AZ Invite concludes, the field will be set for the 2009 JBT Touring Players Championship, our most important event, featuring $2,000 scholarships to the champs. The top 20 in AZ points will be eligible, but remember the top 60 in All-Conference points will also get in, so if you missed the top 20 in your 'home' conference, check the all-conference points to see if you have a chance to make it that way!
I got an email recently asking why the All-Conference Female point list didn't qualify the top 20 for the TPC, when the other conferences did. We had a good list of reasons for this, but a valid counter-argument is the symmetry of taking the top 20 when conference point lists did. I'm not a big fan at all of changing any rules once they are in print, but I don't see the harm in this one (this affects 6 of the top 20 female bowlers- 14 will qualify via other methods)- so I'll leave this open to discussion for a week, and announce a decision in next week's online update.
You only have until July 1 to reserve your rooms at Sunset Station, the TPC host, at the discounted JBT rate, so don't wait much longer! You can always cancel if it turns out you don't make it.
See you soon!
A busy time for JBT, as we wind up the amazing 08-09 season, while at the same time doing a ton of behind the scenes work to get ready for an even better 09-10 season! Keep up to date with everything at our website, and we'll see you this weekend for an amazing T of C and Invite!
