Milwaukie, Vancouver this weekend!
Coming up this weekend, the Pacific Northwest Conference wraps up its third season with the final regular season event on Saturday, and the Invitational on Sunday. Saturday’s event is at Kellogg Bowl in Milwaukie OR, and starts at Noon. If you have an old schedule flyer, it may say 11 AM- the center has asked us to delay the start till Noon, which gives you and extra hour to get there anyway, so that should be no problem. We’ll be ready to take your entry anytime after 10 AM, and we request that you’re checked in no later than 11:30 for the- as always- on-time start. Invitational berths and byes will be on the line, as well as all the regular JBT fun and excitement, so we hope you’ll help us spread the word, and see you all there!
Then, on Sunday, the first of our six Invitational tournaments gets rolling, at Hazel Dell Lanes in Vancouver WA. The only way you can bowl in this event is to make a top-5 finish sometime during the Pac NW season, or finish in the top 32 of the season-long Pac NW points race. Be sure to check in no later than 8:30 for the 9 AM start time. With $1,000 for first place in each division, and guaranteed prizes all the way down to $50 for 16th, it escapes me how any eligible bowler would not want to be at this tournament, so don’t miss it! In last week’s update, we asked you to email us if you haven’t gotten your Invite flyer in the mail- we may have jumped the gun on that as some were still in the ol’ postal system when I sent that. You certainly should have had Pac NW Invites by now. If you don’t: firstly, don’t panic!! There’s nothing for you to send back in, you have a guaranteed spot if you’re eligible, and the same info I’ve sent you is on the ‘schedule’ page of the website. That said, please email me if you are eligible and haven’t received a flyer in the mail- your contact info may need updating on our end if so.
So Cal, Mojave, Girls, NM-TX Invites sent
Invitational info has now been sent out for all Invitationals except the Arizona Invite. Again, give the post office a few days to do their thing, and if you don’t receive a flyer for an event you’re already eligible for, just drop us a line and we’ll solve that problem. You can check your status at the ‘statistics’ section of the website, or also at the “Invitational Qualifiers” section of the website. The six Invitationals alone will award a guaranteed minimum of $36,100 in scholarships, and likely closer to $50,000! That’s not even counting the all-important TPC. If you can find another tour /event with this prize structure, please let me know. Just sayin’.
Points races heating up!
Points are a unique part of the JBT experience, and play a major part in the fun we offer, as well as determining year-end awards and eligibility. Close races for the lead, top 5, top 20, and top 32 in points continue in all ten JBT divisions. Here’s where each points race stands:
Pac NW:
rank Bowler PAC SCR
1 Weier, Cameron 1148
2 Cruz, Tyler 1075
3 Stone, Lucas 1055
4 Plunkett, Jordan 1049
5 Kent, Marshall 1029
rank Bowler PAC HCP
1 Nute, Thomas 816
2 Gallagher, Ryan 797
3 Boe, Tyler 721
4 Bubnich, Jessica 672
5 Hays, Kyle 658
6 Nylund, Thomas 625
Cameron Weier has opened up a larger lead than we’ve seen all year in Pac NW with a win at Hiline, while Marshall Kent owns an 80-point lead over 6th place Nick Stone, while Thomas Nute’s consistent but so far winless season gives him the edge over Ryan Gallagher. Remember, you can still make the Invite at Kellogg, and the top 20 AFTER the Invitational advance to the Touring Players’ Championship in July, so it’s a big weekend in the Northwest!
NM-TX:
rank Bowler NMTX SCR
1 Entsminger, William 1884
2 Shock, Nathan 1639
3 Lucero, Diego 1553
4 Romero, Dan 1452
5 Gagliardi, Jess 1422
6 Read, Billy 1255
rank Bowler NMTX HCP
1 Walls, Angela 966
2 Quintana, Taylor 743
3 Baribeau, Tim 693
4 McFarland, Bailey 617
5 Jaramillo, Seth 604
6 Williams, Ahkeen 596
With two scratch and one handicap event to go before the Invite, William Entsminger, with a ton of top 5s but also no wins) has a sizable, but not insurmountable, lead over Coloradan Nathan Shock, while Jess Gagliardi is almost safely locked into the top 5. Angela Walls’ two wins has her with a firm grip on the lead, but the top 5 Invite bye is definitely up for grabs.
SO CAL:
rank Bowler CAL SCR
1 King, Kyle 1601
2 Hawkins, James 1211
3 Phandanouvong, Foster 1190
4 Smith, Cameron 1167
5 Hefley, James 1082
6 Reguero, Rebeca 906
rank Bowler CAL HCP
1 Hansen, Dan 928
2 Chui, Kirk 791
3 Shoup, Josh 733
4 Kolatzny, Brittany 705
5 Loop, Karlie 663
6 Cleveland, Isaiah 650
7 Wright, John 641
So Cal has the same schedule setup as Pac NW and NM-TX, with an event the day before the Invitational, so lots is yet to be determined, but Kyle King and Dan Hansen enjoy prohibitive point leads, and while the scratch top 5 is pretty well set, it’s wide open in handicap.
MOJAVE:
rank Bowler MOJ SCR
1 Smith, Cameron 1416
2 King, Kyle 1361
3 George, Kris 1276
4 Sloan, DJ 1256
5 Ferrer, Jordan 1166
6 Hawkins, James 1154
rank Bowler MOJ HCP
1 Shoup, Josh 975
2 Meyers, Samantha 927
3 Givler, Justin 865
4 Hanuscin, Ian 836
5 Watkins, Aaron 832
6 Stern, Drew 769
The Mojave regular season is wrapped up, with Cameron Smith and Josh Shoup in the lead but not comfortably with triple points on the line at the Invite. Meanwhile, Jordan Ferrer edged out James Hawkins for the scratch bye.
AZ:
rank Bowler AZ SCR
1 King, Kyle 2043
2 George, Kris 1537
3 Smith, Cameron 1362
4 Garbera, Greg 1328
5 Lopez, Miguel 1315
6 Hawkins, James 1105
rank Bowler AZ HCP
1 Luna, Emilio 807
2 Cotten, Daniel 800
3 Givler, Justin 777
4 Ailport, Lindsey 756
5 Shoup, Josh 751
6 Pellegrino, Alex 706
7 Stever, Marina 695
Arizona still has a full regular season doubleheader remaining, and AZ handicap is completely up for grabs as a result, as any listed bowler could even jump into the points lead with a solid spring. Poor James Hawkins sits in 6th in this division as well, and will need a huge weekend in Tucson to grab one of those valuable top-5 byes.
FEMALE:
rank bowler points
1 Ijams, Allie 1860
2 Reguero, Rebeca 1470
3 Mayall, Kaitlin 910
4 Urban, April 830
5 Jimenez, Natalie 790
6 Davis, Rachelle 680
The Girls’ Invitational, May 30 at Gold Coast, will feature any girl who made a female top-5 during the season, competing for $500 for first, plus the 16 JBT Women’s Series winners playing for a bonus prize list, also with $1,000 on top. Rebeca Reguero and 3-time winner Allie Ijams will have the inside track, earning byes to the finals for their season-long success.
Even though the above highlighted the current leaders, I want to emphasize that there’s still a chance for a bowler who hasn’t even bowled with us AT ALL this season to get into ALL the post-season, big-money events. Remember, the benchmarks you’re shooting for are:
a) Make a top 5 to get into the Invitational
b) Finish in the top 32 in points (24 in NM-TX scratch) to get into the Invitational
c) Finish in the top 5 in points GOING INTO the Invitational to get a bye into that Invite’s finals
d) Finish in the top 20 in points AFTER the Invitational OR win the Invitational OR finish in the top 60 in All-Conference points after all Invitationals to get into the TPC.
So, get out there and practice, because spring and summer are the best time of year for our biggest action!
Lots more to tell you about, and we’ll save it for next week. We look forward to seeing you in the Portland area this week for the thrilling wrapup to a great Pac NW season, and if not, get ready for Tucson and Vegas coming in the next few weeks. Spread the word about the best Tour in bowling, folks, for all ages and averages- it’s the only way we exist.
