While entries continue to come in at a steady pace, there are still plenty of February and June spots available for the 2006 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
As of today, there are 11,693 teams already signed up for the event, and there is still a fair amount of time left before the Dec. 15 entry deadline.
And since spring comes early in Texas, a visit in February still would provide an enjoyable oceanside experience for any bowler.
The 2006 Open Championships is scheduled to begin on Feb. 11, with team events running through July 1, as the newly renovated American Bank Center is transformed into a state-of-the-art 48-lane bowling center.
"We definitely feel for those bowlers who have been affected by the recent hurricanes, but we're glad people are still making plans to come to the Open Championships," USBC Open Championships Entries Manager Arlene Schwab said. "Corpus Christi is a beautiful place with a lot to offer, and we hope the entries continue to come in."
The 2005 event in Baton Rouge, La., featured 13,222 teams, making it the largest event ever held outside of Reno, Nev., and the fifth largest event in ABC Tournament history.
