Chris Lemke Keene welcomes the crowd at the annual Milwaukee Bowl for the Cure fund-raising tournament in January 2007.
Longtime USBC employee Christine "Chris" Lemke Keene lost her seven-year battle with breast cancer on Oct. 21. She was 42.
Chris is survived by her husband Raymond and daughter Carly Marie as well as a host of family members and friends who remember her as a passionate, caring person.
In her most recent position as charities coordinator for USBC, Chris spearheaded the national Bowl for the Cure program, which raised more than $6 million in seven years to benefit breast cancer awareness and research in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Chris's entire work life was dedicated to USBC. She began her career at USBC while still in high school, working part-time in the lane certification department. She continued through the years in the education department and in tournament management, most notably the Masters and Team USA Trials. Chris also headed up the merchandise department and then, most recently, charities.
"Chris was a tireless worker in support of USBC's efforts to fight breast cancer through Bowl for the Cure," said Jack Mordini, USBC Vice President of Membership Products/Services. "All of us at USBC Headquarters will miss her deeply. Chris was a very private person and to have her taken by the disease she fought to eliminate personally and professionally is very difficult for those of us who knew her well."
Chris grew up in Greendale, Wis., and graduated from Greendale High School. She is remembered as a joyful person who loved music, dancing and festivals. She believed in living life to the fullest -- traveling to the Caribbean, going on cruises and spending time with her extended family and friends in the Milwaukee area.
Chris's family has asked that memorials be directed to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
