Powered by the first 300 game of the tournament, PBA Hall of Famer Tom Baker won his second match of the day defeating Fred Mattson of Tacoma, Wash., 757-649.
If there is a theme to this year's Senior Masters it is making the right adjustments in both delivery and equipment.
"The pairs that I have bowled on so far in match play have been so different," Baker said. "I've used a different line and different ball in every
match so far."
Baker admits that earlier in his career he lacked the knowledge to make the right adjustments but has received help from people like Brad Angelo, Mo Pinel and Rich Benoit to gain the knowledge necessary to make the right adjustments.
"Years ago I was a pretty one-dimensional player," Baker said. "I've had a lot of help from these guys which has enabled me to gain more knowledge from an equipment and mechanics standpoint. You just can't be a one-style player anymore - you have to be versatile."
It's paid off big-time for Baker as this year he became the first bowler to win three consecutive senior tour titles including the Senior U.S. Open.
Johnny Petraglia suffered his first loss of the tournament losing to Ron Mohr, 634-594. Petraglia bowled a 133 in his final game.
Gary Dickinson also remained alive by defeating fellow hall of famer Ernie Schlegel, 672-611 and Barry Gurney, 665-630
2003 Senior Masters champion Dale Eagle moved to the losers bracket after losing to Greg Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind., 652-633. Eagle left a pocket 7-10 split on a double in the 10th frame of the last game which cost him the match.
Match play continues today with the field cut to four players after competition is completed this evening.
